Q. How is it different to riding a normal bike?
Riding an electric bicycle is just like riding any other bicycle – you have to pedal and you have a range of gears to use. However, at any point you can choose to switch on the electric power. With the Giant bikes you can select one of three settings (Eco, Normal or Sport). Each of these gives a different level of ‘boost’ to help you ride up the hills with relative ease and no sweat. Be warned – it is a very addictive feeling!
Q. Where can I ride with an electric bicycle?
Whilst good quality e-bicycles are very robust, most are not designed to be used as mountain bikes and you shouldn’t go on off-road, rocky tracks or through water (there are some exceptions such as the Scott e-mountain bike). However we have researched some interesting routes for you to explore the area in a series of suggested half-day/day rides. Your hire point will be able to provide you with more information.
Q. How long does the battery last?
It will very much depend on what setting you select, how much climbing you do, your weight etc. The range for most single ebike batteries is between 10 – 50 miles.
Q. What happens if the battery starts getting low?
If your battery is getting low you can go into one of the charge points that are marked on the route maps. The suggested routes available from the hire point have been carefully researched to advise you where/how to use the electric assist to get the maximum range, and top up your battery. NB – don’t forget to take a charger with you to give to the charge point.
Q. What happens if I break down?
If you are in a serviced Network, and have a puncture, or your bike breaks down you will need to call an emergency phone number to arrange to be picked up and either returned to your hire point, or provided with a replacement bicycle.
Q. Where can I buy an electric bicycle?
If you enjoyed riding an electric bicycle you can buy new or ex-rental versions of electric bikes from us. For more information visit: www.electricbicyclenetwork.com or ask your hire point.
